Maple Syrup Symposium (2007)

After camping at Brevoort Lake we headed out across Michigan's UP to
Whitefish Point and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. Because the shipping
channel narrows at Whitefish Point, lots of shipwrecks happened near there. Many
of the wrecks were caused by ships running into each other. The Edmund
Fitzgerald foundered near there as well. The Museum has the Fitzgerald's bell
which was raised and replaced by a bell engraved with the 29 crew members' names
as a memorial. Next on the drive were the Tahquamenon Falls (lower and upper).
The water is colored from tannin from the trees. Continuing to drive west we
settled for the night in Munising, MI.
