Sauntering, Our travels around the country Maple Syrup Symposium (2007) |
November 9, 2005 Left Sidney early and took highway 200 all the way to Lewistown, Montana before settling in for the night in Fort Benton MT. Fort Benton is the oldest city in Montana. We spent the night at the Grand Union Hotel, the oldest operating hotel in Montana. Between Sidney and Fort Benton we made a few stops at some interesting places along the way.
Came across the little town of Coffee Creek, Montana and could not resist taking a few pictures of the "town". Square Butte:
The Grand Union hotel in Fort Benton has one of only three, 3- star, restaurants in Montana. The others are Bozeman and Kalispell. We dined on spinach salad with a champagne vinaigrette, rock shrimp linguine (Terry) and short rib in a pinot noir sauce (Heather). For dessert we shared warm chocolate cake (which took 12 minutes to prepare)...chocolate cake with warm melted molten chocolate oozing from inside with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The first picture is the view from our room of the Missouri River. The others are of the hotel, dining room and lobby. This was a very friendly town; we had a great time talking to some of the locals.
