Sauntering, Our travels around the country Maple Syrup Symposium (2007) |
September 26, 2005 Spent the night at
Sault Ste. Marie, doing what else, looking at boat, big boats. The ore transport
ship, Valley Camp, has been converted into a maritime museum. The museum
included a special exhibit on the Edmund Fitzgerald, the only wreckage salvaged
was a live boat found the next day that was broken in half. We then went on a 2
hour sightseeing cruise of the Soo Locks. We went upriver on the America site
and down river on the Canadian side. Passage through the locks is free, the only
think required is a list of passengers and cargo. The captain of the sightseeing
boat was making fun of Heather wearing here gloves, when she told him that she
was from Arizona everyone on deck laughed. Next we drove over the six mile long
Mackinaw Bridge that is the dividing line between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
The toll for the bridge is $2.50 for a car and another $1.25 for each additional
axle. We ate dinner at Mackinaw City. Terry had a chicken pastie, (email me if
you know what a pastie is) after dinner we were forced to purchase some kind of
fudge as there are 13 different fudge stores in the city center. Each one has
there own unique recipe for basic chocolate fudge and store offers there own
flavors.
